One of South Africa’s most recognisable logos is up for creative reimagining, with R20,000 on the line for innovative design students. Insurance leader Santam, in partnership with Pendoring, has launched an exciting design challenge that invites tertiary students to envision the future of the company’s iconic yellow umbrella logo.
The challenge presents a unique opportunity for emerging designers to work with a heritage brand that has been a trusted name in South African insurance for over a century. The brief calls for a delicate balance: reinventing the yellow umbrella symbol for the digital age while maintaining its core values of protection, safety, and reliability.
The challenge calls on students to apply both design innovation and practical application. Participants aren’t just creating a logo – they’re being asked to think strategically about brand identity in the digital space and consider how their design would make its debut at a major industry event, the 2025 Pendoring Awards.
To participate, students must provide:
- A high-resolution vector version of their redesigned logo
- A rationale explaining their design choices
- A presentation showing the logo applied across brand touchpoints
- A creative concept for unveiling the new identity at the 2025 Pendoring Awards
The competition is open to all registered students at South African tertiary institutions who are 18 or older. Submissions close on 15 November 2024.
Interested students can find detailed brief requirements and submit their entries through the Pendoring website. For any questions about the competition, participants can reach out to hello@pendoring.co.za.
