Glorinah Mabaso, the founder of Renaissance Design, has dedicated her brand to a noble cause – the preservation of the heritage and indigenous knowledge of ancient Africa. This mission-driven approach has not only shaped the brand’s identity but also made a significant impact in the creative and cultural industries.
“This was my inspiration,” says Mabaso, the Tshwane-based creative business owner. “Now that I am a confirmed entrepreneur, I am fully and deeply invested in managing the convergence of my two greatest passions: African history and design. I see myself as a mouthpiece to the ancient world: a city girl with a rural heart.”
Renaissance Design is a pan-African multidisciplinary creative agency specialising in pattern design inspired by the essence of ancient Africa. Mabaso creates bespoke and beautiful pieces for modern living by applying her pattern design skills to various disciplines. She extends her business services to interior, fashion, product design, and custom design for corporate and hospitality brands.
With a successful track record of five years in the market, Renaissance Design, under the leadership of Glorinah Mabaso, has garnered numerous accolades and established fruitful collaborations. Notable achievements include creating patterns for Nando’s restaurants, a capsule collection for Trenery, and a custom print for Flame Studios at Constitution Hill.
It is no wonder Renaissance Design is one of 12 businesses chosen for full immersion, incubation, and seed-funding in the R24 million French initiative Création Africa, which supports the creative and cultural economies of Lesotho, Malawi, and South Africa.
Mabaso says she has thoroughly enjoyed her Création Africa experience and is especially excited about scaling up her business and connecting with a global network and community of creatives.
“My Création Africa experience has been enlightening and is opening doors for me and for all twelve laureates,” she says. “It has allowed me to share, absorb and exchange insights and experiences with a dynamic group of experts and entrepreneurs across various cultural and creative sectors.”
