Call for Submissions for the Tlhagella Incubation Programme

Tlhagella Incubation Programme

Are you a visual artist from a marginalised or historically under-resourced background in Gauteng? Are you eager to elevate your craft, gain professional practice skills, and showcase your talent?

The Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP), in collaboration with the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), is thrilled to announce the launch of the Tlhagella Incubation Programme

Running from February to March 2025, the Tlhagella Incubation Programme is an enriching journey for visual artists, offering a multi-phase experience:

  1. Professional practice & career training workshop
    • Thirty selected participants will receive professional practice training led by an accomplished arts practitioner. The training will focus on career-building skills for sustaining artistic practice.
  2. Exhibition & networking event
    • Ten participants will advance to showcase their artwork at the Javett-UP in an exhibition on 30 March 2025. This event offers a unique opportunity to network with fellow creatives, industry leaders, and potential patrons.
  3. Art commissions & sales
    • Five artists from the exhibition cohort will be commissioned to create original artworks, which will be transformed into limited-edition prints and a merchandise collection. These items will be sold at the Javett-UP Shop through a profit-sharing agreement, creating further economic opportunities for the artists.

How to apply:

To apply, complete the application form available at www.javettup.com. Applications close on 17 January 2025 at 15:00.

Those who have difficulty accessing the online form may request a copy by emailing connect@javettup.com. Submissions can also be emailed or delivered in person to Javett-UP’s reception.

This is more than a programme – it’s a call to action for artists to seize the opportunity to refine their craft, connect with industry professionals, and contribute meaningfully to the creative tapestry of South Africa.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of the Tlhagella Incubation Programme.
